The sea has played a significant part in how it has developed and even today, is integral to the city’s identity.
The port of Southampton will be forever part of our history as it is where the Mayflower set sail for the New World in 1620 and it was also from here that the Titanic began her ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912. The city’s museums specialising in maritime, archaeological and aviation history tell the city’s story.
